A Courthouse Wedding, Portland Oregon
Lucas & Morgan’s Courthouse Wedding in Portland, Oregon
There’s something so timeless about courthouse weddings, as a wedding photographer in Portland, Oregon.
The new Multnomah County Courthouse seamlessly blends modern architecture with elegant touches. Its clean lines, tall windows, and bright, airy spaces make it a surprisingly photogenic backdrop for a wedding day. Located right in the heart of downtown, it also offers easy access to some of Portland’s most iconic urban backdrops for portraits afterward. It’s also located near some of Portland’s popular coffee shops and local stores.
A courthouse wedding is beautifully straightforward. Couples usually check in at the clerk’s office, meet their officiant or judge, and say their vows in a small, private ceremony. The intimacy means that every look, laugh, and happy tear is front and center. From a photography perspective, I love being able to capture the raw emotion without distraction; it’s storytelling in its purest form.
One of the best parts of a courthouse wedding in Portland is the variety of portrait options right outside the door. After the ceremony, we can step out into the city streets for chic, urban photos with the courthouse architecture in the background. A short walk takes us to Tom McCall Waterfront Park, with views of the river and bridges, or up to Pioneer Courthouse Square for something a little more iconic and metropolitan. If you love a mix of modern city vibes and classic romance, downtown Portland is the perfect destination.
Many of my couples who choose the courthouse want a day that feels stress-free, intentional, and focused on each other. It’s also perfect for those planning a larger celebration later.
A Multnomah Courthouse wedding may not be the traditional ballroom celebration, but it’s every bit as special. I find that these days often carry the most genuine emotion and quiet joy. It’s an honor to document such intimate moments and memories that will last forever.
